GB Game Wrap Up

July 22, 2009

Check out http://www.bafa.org.uk/artman2/publish/np/Lions_beaten_by_Australia.shtml for a detailed wrap up of the game against the Great Britain Lions

With great victory, comes great sacrifice

July 22, 2009

The win was good, but it was tough and has taken a toll.

Erbs had an x-ray today and confirmed a fracture in his wrist and is in a cast. Our centre strained his mcl, backup centre fractured his wrist and finger. Defensive line has had more than its fair share with multiple ankle sprains and muscle tears.

Most of the guys are pretty banged up in some way or another.

Patch us up and time to take it to the world no.4, Sweden.

OUTBACK 20 – LIONS 3

A fantastic and very hard game. Had it all, defensive intercept touchdows, big hits, fumble turnovers, special team recoveries, deep TD passes, short yardage stops and TD’s called back.

Even though personally i felt I didn’t have the best game the boys did an awesome job and we just wanted it more than the brits.

Bring on the Swedes, game pics to come.

Aussie, aussie, ausie, oi, oi, oi!!

Game Summary

July 19, 2009

Australia scored first with a 35 yard field goal to Liam Erby to go 3 – 0 up.

There was a great 40 Yard grab by Saxon Learey to set up a 10 YD TD pass from Kiernan Dorney to Robert West-McInnis. in the 2nd Qtr. Pat converted by Erby

The Phoenix/Aces moved the ball 60 yards with the first drive of the half, completed with a 15 yard Stuart Ennis strike to Ricky Livingstone to reduce the deficit. The PAT was missed 10 – 6

Next score by Australia was a 15yard pass across the middle , Dorney again to Matthew Freeman who legged it in the remaining 25 yards for a TD…PAT again converted by Erby.

Stu Ennis found Neil Foster on a 8 yard pass to bring the home team within 2 points 14 – 12

The Aussies scored once again, late in the third to go another score up 17 – 12

The Tamworth D, who asked questions all day long, scored a saftey on a sack to bring the score to 3 points. 17 – 14

The Tamworth defence, spurred on by their score held the tourists to a 3 and out, which gave the Phoenix/Aces the ball on their own 35. A short drive later, and they were notching up first down after first down…

Last Score was a 70 yard intercept touchdown by Bryn Nightingale, who picked off the Loughborough QB in the flats and was too fast for everyone. PAT again converted by Erby.

Final Score 24 – 14

Victory!

Australian Outback won 24-14 against the loughbourgh aces tonight. It was then nice to share a pint at the local sponsors pub. Good game, good result, played in the right spirit

Game Day 1

July 18, 2009

Its a little over 8 hous until kick off against the Loughbourgh Aces. The aces are the local uni based team which play in a four conference university league across the country. This is in addition to the BAFA’s Senior 2 division league which plays at a different time of year.

Looking forward to a tough challenge and to show off the hard work i have put into strength training and technique over the past 6 months.

Weather

July 17, 2009

The most frustrating part of this tour has been the weather. I now know what it would be like to live in Melbourne. If it was possible to have more than four seasons we have, and all in the one day.

Typically the weather will change about 4 -5 times a day. We will be woken early by blinding sunlight at 5am and then it will suddenly get overcast and drop 10 degrees. This is then usually followed with a shower or two of rain before more radiant sunshine and clear skys around lunchtime. Then just in time for training at 4pm the bloody rain starts again. Then finally it clears again to remain sunny until at least 10pm.

Then just to mess with you again you get intot the pattern and then it is just overcastand showers all day. I don’t even want to imagine at winter would be like. Anyone who trades this for sydney weather is crazy…
